Highlights of Clinical Medicine publishes Special Issues to collect articles that concentrate on hot topics in a specific area. The aim of Special Issues is to provide a forum to bring together authors and readers who are interested in the topics to discuss the latest research and foresee future research directions. The topics of Special Issues must be within the scope of the journal.

Special Issues are not independent issues of the journal. All submissions to the Special Issues follow the same peer review process as regular papers and are published in the regular issues of the journal when they are accepted. The Special Issue articles will also be additionally labelled as part of a Special Issue, and are put together on a dedicated webpage as a collection.

Special Issues are led by Guest Editors who are experts in the subject. Guest Editors serve the same function as academic editors for submissions in their Special Issue, including pre-screening new submissions, overseeing peer-review process, and making decisions on papers after peer-review, etc.
